Freshmen Merit Scholarships

Freshmen scholarships are awarded based on a combination of ACT or SAT scores and cumulative high school grade point average or class rank. All applicants for admission are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Some merit awards may be combined with a Student Involvement Scholarship. The information listed below reflects the 2012-2013 scholarship program.

Governor's Scholarship

Value

Incidental fees and general fees for 30 credit hours per academic year, room & board, textbook rental. The 2011-2012 value is $13,174 for Missouri residents or $18,214 for non-Missouri residents

Eligibility

Achieve a 31+ ACT composite score or 1360+ SAT (critical reading + math) and rank in the upper 3% of class (Missouri residents) or rank as Valedictorian (out-of-state residents).

Renewal

Renewable each year up to a maximum of four consecutive academic years. To renew, you must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average in courses taken at Southeast and complete a minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year at Southeast. Southeast summer hours taken in the same academic year may be used to meet renewal criteria.

Regents' Scholarship

Value

Incidental fees for 30 credit hours per academic year. The 2011-2012 value is $5,634 for Missouri residents or $10,674 for non-Missouri residents.

Eligibility for Missouri Residents

  1. 27+ ACT composite score or 1210+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or rank in the upper 10% of class; or
  2. 25+ ACT composite score or 1130+ SAT (critical reading + math) and rank as Valedictorian or Salutatorian; or
  3. National Merit/ Achievement Semifinalist designation

Eligibility for Out-of-State Residents

  1. Achieve a 28+ ACT composite score or 1250+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or rank in the upper 10% of class; or
  2. Achieve National Merit/ Achievement Semifinalist designation

Renewal

Renewable each year up to a maximum of four consecutive academic years. To renew, you must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average in courses taken at Southeast and complete a minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year at Southeast. Southeast summer hours taken in the same academic year may be used to meet renewal criteria.

President's Plus Scholarship

Value

$2,500 applied toward incidental fees ($1,250 per semester).

Eligibility

Missouri Residents Only. Achieve a 26+ ACT composite score or 1170+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or rank in the upper 20% of their class.

President's Scholarship

$2,000 applied toward incidental fees ($1,000 per semester).

Eligibility

  1. Missouri Residents Only
  2. Achieve a 27+ ACT composite score or 1210+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a  cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale; or
  3. Achieve a 24+ ACT composite score or 1090+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or rank in the upper 20% of class; or
  4. Achieve a 23+ ACT composite score or 1050+ SAT (critical reading + math) and rank in the upper 10% of class or rank as Valedictorian or Salutatorian; or
  5. Achieve National Merit/ Achievement Commended designation

University Scholarship

Value

$2,500 applied toward incidental fees ($1,250 per semester) or $1,500 when combined with the Regional Achievement Award.

Eligibility

Out-of-State Residents Only. Achieve a 27+ ACT composite score or 1210+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a 3.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or be a National Merit/ Achievement Commended. Students also qualify if they achieve a 24+ ACT composite score or 1100+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale or rank in the upper 20% of their class or be a National Merit/ Achievement Commended.

Regional Achievement Award (RAA)

Value

Recipients will pay the in-state incidental fee rate plus 25 percent of that rate. The 2011-2012 value is $3,631 for 30 credit hours.

Eligibility

  1. Achieve a 21+ ACT composite score or 980+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a  cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and
  2. Reside in an RAA eligible county in Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee, and Kentucky ; and
  3. Live in on-campus housing the first two years.

Renewal

Renewable each year up to a maximum of four consecutive academic years, 128 credit hours (including transfer) or completion of the coursework for a Bachelor's degree, whichever occurs first, provided you:

  1. meet the housing requirement of living in University approved housing during the Fall and Spring semesters of your first two years (one year if a community college transfer student) enrolled at Southeast; and
  2. are enrolled in at least 12 Southeast hours for the Fall and Spring semesters (complete a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year).
  3. maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average in courses taken at Southeast. Southeast summer hours taken in the same academic year may be used to meet renewal criteria.

Southeast Family Achievement Award

Value

Eligibility

  1. Out-of-State Residents only.
  2. Achieve a 21+ ACT composite score or 980+ SAT (critical reading + math) and have a  cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and
  3. Be the child or grandchild of a Southeast graduate.

Renewal

Renewable each year up to a maximum of four consecutive academic years, 128 credit hours (including transfer) or completion of the coursework for a Bachelor's degree, whichever occurs first, provided you:

GED Scholarship

The GED Scholarship is a competitive award program. There are 20 awards are made annually to beginning freshmen with the highest GED scores.

Value

Incidental fees for 30 credit hours per academic year. The 2011-2012 value is $5,634 for Missouri residents or $10,674 for non-Missouri residents.

Eligibility

  1. Plan to enroll as a non-traditional beginning freshmen at Southeast
  2. Missouri resident
  3. Achieve a GED combined standard score of 3,000 or above (300 if test taken prior to Jan. 1, 2002)

Renewal

Renewable each year up to a maximum of four consecutive academic years. To renew, you must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average in courses taken at Southeast and complete a minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year at Southeast. Southeast summer hours taken in the same academic year may be used to meet renewal criteria.

  3. Attach a copy of the official GED score report with the scholarship application.
