The Southeast Health On Wheels (S.H.O.W.) Mobile initiative is a mobile health literacy, health promotion, disease prevention, and direct primary care nurse managed unit; administered by the College of Health and Human Services of Southeast Missouri State University. The University has partnered with Southeast Missouri Hospital who provides the medical staff.
The goals of the S.H.O.W. Mobile are twofold: to decrease the health disparities through education and care and provide experiential learning opportunities for students pursuing a career in health care and human services. The target area for this initiative is a rural, economically deprived region designated as a medically underserved community (MUC) and either a geographic or low income health care provider shortage area (HPSA), with critical health care needs represented by a range of health disparities and limited educational opportunities. The success and impact of this program will be significantly enhanced by the active collaboration and partnership with area organizations and agencies.
In addition to the unit's operational and medical staff, other staffing on the unit will include a support team of professionals and student interns from departments within the College of Health and Human Services, including nursing; human environmental studies; health, human performance and recreation; communication disorders; social work; and criminal justice and sociology. The students will provide tremendous support for the unit, and, at the same time, will gain valuable clinical experiential learning opportunities.
