Associate Professor
Bob Polack was raised in Cape Girardeau. He earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from Southeast Missouri State University, a Master's of Social Work from St. Louis University, and a PhD. from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, Calif.
He lived and worked in St. Louis Missouri for 16 years prior to returning to Cape Girardeau in 1998, when he joined the Department of Social Work. He has worked with the homeless and refugees, with low income families, and with the mentally ill. He has been an activist with School of America's Watch and other local, state and national advocacy organizations for years. He also is active in local, civic and service organizations. Polack's current interests and research areas include social justice and the global economy, migrant workers in the Missouri bootheel, and related social welfare issues.
He generally teaches social and economic justice, policy and micro practice courses. He has been actively involved in developing bilingual practicum sites for students wishing to learn Spanish while gaining experience working with migrant agricultural workers.
Polack received the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award" in 2001 and "Outstanding Service Provider" in 2003, for the College of Health and Human Services.
