Center for Family Resources - Malden Malden, Missouri THE CENTER FOR FAMILY RESOURCES, INC. is dedicated to the prevention and elimination of child abuse/neglect, domestic violence and homelessness as it is experienced by women and children. The agency serves victims of domestic violence and child abuse/neglect through education and counseling. Programs and services are as follows: THE FIELD EXPERIENCE FOR THE BSW CANDIDATE: Students in field education placement at The Center for Family Resources, Inc. have many opportunities to intervene with families in crisis because of child abuse and neglect, sexual abuse, or domestic violence. Students can intervene at the micro level through hotline crisis calls, psychosocial assessments and case management with emergency shelter residents and victim advocacy in the court systems. Students also have the opportunity to intervene with family units in the shelter setting as victims and their children deal with crisis situations. The Center also provides Intensive In-Home Services for families at high risk of foster placement for their children and this provides a unique setting for working with families in crisis in their own homes. The Center also sponsors group programs for parenting and women’s safety issues which provides students with an opportunity for group facilitation. At the macro level, the Center actively participates in various community organizations focused on social service delivery and legislative change. Students are welcome to participate in any of these activities. Because this is a private, not-for-profit agency, students also have the opportunity for exposure to social work administrative activities if they are interested. This is a small agency in a rural setting with many facets of grass-roots social work intervention available to students. WHAT STUDENTS SAY: “My experience at The Center for Family Resources was wonderful. It provided me with several learning opportunities. I was able to work with individuals, families, groups, and communities. My supervisor was professional, understanding and very helpful. The agency staff was very supportive and friendly. Every staff member is very competent in the areas in which they specialize. They taught me so much.” * * * * * "The Center for Family Resources, Inc. was a wonderful learning experience. The field instructor was always available to me if I needed help as well as if I had any questions. The pace at the Center was fast. I was able to work with very little supervision which is what I like and this also helped to build my confidence. The staff at the Center was very helpful and very involved in my field education. They were always willing to answer any questions. The staff was also very willing to let me shadow them at any time and willing to help me with any of my clients. The best thing about the Center is that the staff all work as a team and there seems to be no conflict between them. I would recommend this site to any future field student." * * * * * "The Center is an agency with a good cause. Everything the agency stands for is for the sake of the communities it serves. Every employee faithfully shows this. The environment is very relaxed and "laid back". The staff made me feel extremely comfortable which allowed me to be myself in a professional manner. They always wanted to know any new ideas I had to improve services. They seemed to value my input as a student. Every experience was a learning experience. The Center is a great agency and my experiences there opened my eyes and mind to what really goes on in society."
