BOOTHEEL COUNSELING SERVICES is a private, not-for-profit organization, and is the state’s administrative agent for a four-county service area in the Missouri Bootheel, including Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi and Stoddard Counties.

The agency provides outpatient treatment services for a wide range of problems: community-based rehabilitation services for adults with psychiatric disabilities, early screening and intervention services with “at risk” children, mental health promotion and education services for the community at large and training, education and consultation for area businesses and corporations.

The agency offers to the community a crisis response service, individual counseling, group therapy, parent education and adjustment groups, a “clubhouse” model for psychosocial rehabilitation of individuals with chronic mental illness, and case management and community support for adults and children with mental illness living at home.

THE FIELD EXPERIENCE FOR THE BSW CANDIDATE:  The BSW candidate will be afforded the opportunity to work in two areas: 

1. CPRC--This is working toward community integration of adults living in the community with serious mental illness.
2. PSR--This is working in day treatment or the “Clubhouse” model with adults living in the community with serious mental illness. The emphasis is on living skills and building independence. Micro-, mezzo- and macro-practice experiences are available with emphasis on micro and mezzo. Field Instructors are both BSW’s and MSW’s with many years of experience in the mental health field.
