Senior year of high school is full of excitement: prom, graduation and thoughts of leaving home and heading to college. Such was the case for Meghan Seher, a freshman at Southeast.

Seher, a native of St. Louis and alumna of St. Elizabeth Academy, was attracted to Southeast’s location. “I decided to attend Southeast because it is not too far away from home—but just far enough!” She also has extensive family ties to the area. “My sister attends Southeast. I also have family who live in Cape Girardeau, so I have been traveling back and forth all my life.”

Perhaps the biggest factor in choosing Southeast was her visit to the Department of Communication. “I wanted to major in Public Relations. I looked at other colleges but I really like the communication programs at Southeast.”

Seher has already begun working toward her career. She worked for Louie magazine, a publication for teens by teens. This magazine goes out to about 120 high schools is the St. Louis area. “My job was to organize the photo shoot for the cover. I also wrote articles and reviews for Louie. I enjoyed this because I met so many high school students from all over St. Louis.”

Over the summer, Seher spent time with the Jonas Brothers to observe a typical day on tour, which included a press conference, batting practice with the St. Louis Cardinals coaching staff at Busch Stadium, Ted Drew’s Frozen Custard and the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater where their sold-out show was being held. At the venue, Seher was given a tour of their recording tour bus and sat in on the ‘meet ‘n’ greet’ while they had pictures taken with fans and watched the show.

She hopes this experience and her education at Southeast will help her achieve her ultimate dream: becoming managing editor for a major publication. With her goals in place and her family nearby for support, Seher should have no difficulties.
