Dr. Christina Frazier

Dr. Christina Frazier loves being close to nature.  In fact, she only leaves the outdoors to enter the classroom.  Dr. Frazier teaches virology, microbiology, epidemiology and related subjects in the Department of Biology at Southeast.  When she isn’t teaching, Frazier is frequently in the field collecting samples for her research on viruses such as West Nile that are transmitted to humans by mosquitoes.

Dr. Frazier also spends much of her free time outdoors.  She frequently goes camping and canoeing in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.  Frazier’s other passion is her dogs. She and her two vizslas have traveled across the nation to compete in various dog shows, claiming American Kennel Club (AKC) titles in conformation, hunting and obedience. 

Frazier, who has taught at Southeast since 1979, spent her college years at Cornell and Yale.  Dr. Frazier describes her classroom as informal and says that she enjoys seeing students “get it.”  She frequently uses visual aides and integrates multimedia technology into her lectures as often as possible. 

Dr. Frazier has an outstanding reputation as an educator. She has received the Alumni Faculty Merit Award and the Governor’s Award for Meritorious Teaching.  Frazier’s research is also praiseworthy. She has been published over a dozen times in national peer-reviewed journals and has also published chapters in three books.  In addition, Dr. Frazier has received over $500,000 in external research grants.  She also serves the local community by working to promote AIDS awareness.
