Note: Students with acceptable practicum experiences that are consistent with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) guidelines for a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCABA) may not be required to take the practicum courses.
Catalog Descriptions of the Core Courses
The following courses and supervised field experiences are designed to prepare students to meet the academic eligibility requirements to sit for the national certification exam to become Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). (See www.bacb.com for more information).
CF 531: Basic Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
Basic principles, procedures, and ethical considerations from the science of Applied Behavior Analysis. Includes history, technical terms, definitions and procedures to teach new behaviors and modify existing behaviors. (3 credits.)
Prerequisite: Admission to the ABA certificate program or permission of the instructor.
CF 532: Behavioral Assessment & Data Analysis
Measuring various dimensions of behaviors, functional relationships between independent and their dependent variables within applied settings; designing, conducting, and evaluating single-subject research; developing assessment strategies and data sheets. (3 credits.)
Prerequisite: Basic Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis: CF 531
CF 533: Strategies for Behavioral Intervention & Change
Empirically-validated behavior interventions and applied behavior analytic techniques within the context of a variety of applied settings, with considerations of ethics in for their selection and use. (3 credits.)
Prerequisite: CF 531; or permission of the instructor and program director.
CF 534: Supervised Field Experience I
Supervised independent field-work in settings that apply basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis under supervision of a board certified ABA analyst. (3 credits)
Prerequisite: CF 533, or permission of the instructor.
CF 535: Supervised Field Experience II
Advanced supervised independent field-work in Applied Behavior Analysis under supervision of a board certified ABA analyst. (3 credits.). Prerequisite: CF 534.

The core course sequence requirements for this certificate program are completed in a cohort model. Courses would be scheduled in the evening or weekends, based on participant’s requests and convenience.
