Dietetics Option

  • Our Mission:
The program in dietetics at Southeast has established as its mission the following:  to provide high-quality undergraduate education that meets the knowledge and skills outlined by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education and to prepare students adequately for acceptance into post-baccalaureate educational programs and the workplace.  To accomplish this mission we strive to create an environment and learning opportunities that foster curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, tolerance for the unfamiliar and the ability to critically evaluate new ideas.
  • Our Goals:
The dietetics option is designed for students preparing for careers as registered dietitians and nutritionists.  Graduates of Southeast’s dietetics program obtain the knowledge and skills required of an entry-level dietitian.  Entering the profession of dietetics as a Registered Dietitian (RD) consists of successful completion of the following:
    1. A minimum of a bachelor's degree at a US regionally accredited university or college and course work approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of The American Dietetic Association (ADA).
    2. Acceptance and completion of a CADE-accredited supervised practice program at a healthcare facility, community agency or a foodservice corporation, or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies. Typically, a practice program will run six to twelve months in length.
