Internships Southeast’s health promotion program offers you numerous opportunities to gain experience in the field. During your sophomore year in the program, you will take a practicum class which allows you to investigate the various aspects of a health promotion career and observe health promotion professionals working in a variety of settings. This experience will help you decide which path you want your career to take, and will set the tone for your internship. During your internship, you will earn first-hand experience at a health and fitness facility or clinic. These semester-long internships can be pursued at a wide variety of locations (see below) anywhere in the country, enabling you to gain experience in the area of health promotion that you plan to pursue and providing you with invaluable networking contacts, skills and knowledge to help you succeed in your career. In addition to the practicum and internship experiences, our health promotion curriculum provides you with even more opportunities for experiential learning. You will gain further experience through the opportunities offered in our exercise physiology laboratory, our employee health promotion program and the personal training experience required in our coursework. During your senior year in the program, you will also have the opportunity to plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive health promotion program for a local company. In addition, you will have opportunities to conduct, present and publish research with health management faculty members. Students have assisted with numerous faculty research projects recently, which have resulted in published journal articles, abstracts and professional publications. Health management students regularly attend professional conferences with health management faculty. A sample of facilities where internships have been performed:
