Internships

As a mass communication major, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in your field through internships at newspapers, magazines, advertising and public relations agencies, radio and television stations, corporations or not-for-profit agencies.

In addition, you can also acquire practical experience through several on-campus student media outlets:

The Capaha Arrow – Southeast’s national award-winning newspaper. Students contribute to the newspaper beginning with their first journalism class, gaining knowledge of writing, editing and designing a weekly publication. Visit: http://www2.semo.edu/capaha/

KRCU 90.9 FM – the National Public Radio affiliate for the Southeast Missouri region. Students compete for staff positions in announcing, news production and promotion. Visit: http://www.krcu.org.

Journey – Southeast’s annual literary magazine. The publication, which regularly receives top honors in the Southern Literary Festival, accepts students’ poetry, short stories, photography and artwork. Visit: http://www2.semo.edu/journey/

Channel U2 – provides local programming for the University cable system. Students gain experience in television production and performance techniques.

KDMC 103.7 FM – a campus radio station. Staffed by students, the station offers announcing, control room, production and management experiences in a controlled setting.
