Nursing Program Admissions Policies:
- Admission to the nursing program is a two-step process – prospective students must apply to the University and indicate nursing as their major. All students who indicate nursing as their major will be considered for the nursing program. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the nursing program.
- Applications must be dated no later than January 30 for fall admission and no later than October 15 for spring admission.
- Students are reviewed on a competitive basis, using the following criteria for evaluation:
- Applicants with fewer than 24 hours of college credit are evaluated based on a combination of their ACT score and high school class rank.
- Applicants with 24 hours or more of college credit will be evaluated based on their cumulative GPA and grades received in any college science course work. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.
- Students seeking a BSN are admitted to the program twice a year. Thirty-five students are admitted to the program each semester.

Transfer Student Admission Criteria:
- Admission is competitive and based on GPA and seat availability.
- The bachelor of science degree in nursing requires a full seven semesters to complete; therefore, transfer students with no nursing course credit will be admitted to the program as second-semester freshmen.
- Transfer students who have nursing course credit must supply transcripts, course descriptions and syllabi for consideration by the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Nursing. The number of courses accepted for transfer will determine the amount of time needed to complete the BSN program.
- All transfer students must meet University and departmental requirements and must complete all prerequisites before they can gain admission to the nursing courses. For additional information, contact the Department of Nursing admission coordinator at (573) 651-2585.
- At least 27 hours of nursing course work must be completed at Southeast Missouri Sate University.

- Admission to the University must be obtained before admission to the Department of Nursing and the RN to BSN program can be completed.
- A separate RN to BSN application must be submitted directly to the Department of Nursing.
- Admission is competitive based on space availability in the program. The application deadline is April 15 or until the class is filled.
- Review of all transcripts and completed course work from previously attended universities (The registrar will evaluate and complete a “degree audit,” which must show 18 hours in required support courses.)
- A 2.0 cumulative GPA in required support courses
- RN to BSN applicants must also provide a copy of a valid RN license number, a professional resume and a completed plan of study before they will be considered for admission. Any applicant on probation with the State Board of Nursing must provide a copy of the probation agreement.
