- Classes in the pedology program at Southeast are taught by well-trained and experienced faculty who have participated in research and who are experts in such areas as soil reactions, artic soil genesis, sedimentology and stratigraphgy.
- Our area boasts many research venues for those studying soils, agricultural productivity and geosciences. Soil fertility is a key component of the massive agricultural potential of our region. The St. Francis Mountains, an hour to the west, is the site of a complex of Precambrian igneous rocks. The eastern flank of the Ozark Dome exposes a section of Paleozoic strata dominated by carbonates and hosting world-class Mississippi-Valley type lead deposits. To the south, Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata are exposed in Crowleys Ridge and the New Madrid Seismic Zone passes through the Bootheel of Missouri and into Tennessee and Arkansas.
- A minor in Soil Science may be coupled with any Geoscience degree or another degree to produce a well-rounded college educational experience. Studying Soil Science can lead to a job as a soil conservationist or a Soil Analysis Technician.
