- As a recreation major, you will have the opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience in your field through participation in various campus programs and recreation organizations throughout Cape Girardeau, in addition to a 500-hour internship in your area of specialization. - Southeast’s recreation program is committed to providing you with a valuable and rewarding internship experience. Our program has placed students in internships in almost every state and in many countries, providing them with varied and invaluable experience that they can rely on when searching for employment in the recreation field. Some of our recent internship sites have included national parks in Alaska, resorts on the eastern seaboard, camps, military bases in the U.S. and abroad and therapeutic programs for various groups. - Southeast’s recreation major is accredited by the National Recreation and Parks Association and the American Association of Leisure/Recreation.
- Southeast’s Recreation Enhancement Club offers you the chance to network with peers who have similar interests, explore professional development opportunities and increase your awareness of new recreational opportunities, in addition to participating in numerous social and outdoor activities.
- Our recreation program will encourage you to get involved in the recreation field through establishing memberships in state, regional and national organizations, accompanying faculty to professional workshops and conferences, pursuing certifications and assisting in presentations at workshops and conferences.
- The beautiful natural areas in our region offer countless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Our recreation students and faculty take full advantage of the excellent rock-climbing, spelunking, floating, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing and other recreational opportunities located within an easy traveling distance of the Southeast campus.
- For students who are willing to relocate, there are many varied job opportunities available every year within the recreation field. Our faculty will help you identify and prepare for the job that is right for you.
