Recreation
Our recreation program’s comprehensive curriculum offers you many opportunities for hands-on learning, providing you with the necessary skills and experience needed to succeed in the recreation field. As a recreation professional, you can choose from a wide variety of career paths that allow you to promote leisure services which enhance individual, family and community wellness and quality of life. Potential career paths include the administration of recreational services for parks and recreation departments, non-profit organizations, branches of the military and for people with disabilities and other special needs, the facilitation of outdoor and challenge activities and programs, and the provision of convention, tourism and corporate activity planning and programming.


Minors

Outdoor Adventure Leadership Minor (for non-recreation majors only) - 20 hours
The Outdoor Adventure Leadership curriculum assists students in their pursuit of leadership and professional development experiences in the outdoor challenge and adventure areas and provides an excellent foundation for students pursuing careers in outdoor adventure and education agencies, camps and agencies that provide outdoor pursuit programming.

Recreation majors also have the opportunity to earn:
Professional Certification in Therapeutic Recreation
Activity therapy programs for special groups are becoming more important in hospitals, nursing homes, prisons and other institutions as we recognize the vital role recreation plays in the education, habilitation and rehabilitation of the ill and handicapped, emotionally disturbed and juvenile delinquents. Programs to rehabilitate the socially deprived, alcoholics and drug addicts also use recreaton as an effective tool to develop and maintain healthy attitudes.

Certificate in Outdoor Adventure Leadership
