Students who major in communication studies at Southeast are given the opportunity to make presentations to their fellow students on a wide variety of topics as part of many of their required classes. In addition, the department sponsors a highly successful debate program which has received national awards from National Educational Debate Association. In addition, Southeast’s Debate Team was ranked first in the nation for the 2001-2002 school year.

Internships also are available for students pursuing a bachelor of science in corporate communication. In the past, students have been placed as interns at Anheiser-Busch, Bank of America, the City of Cape Girardeau and the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
