Career Opportunities While professional sports and intercollegiate athletics are two common examples of areas where those who earn a bachelor’s degree in sport management may find employment, there are many other potential areas of employment as well. The tourism and resort industry provides opportunities for sport management professionals in hotel and resort recreation, travel businesses and hospitality at sporting events. Nonprofit agencies such as YMCAs, YWCAs, city parks and recreation departments are another area of job opportunities. Sport Commissions in metropolitan areas work to bring sporting events and recognition to the city. State Games associations in each state work to promote, market and organize amateur athletic events, including Olympic-style state-wide contests. Organizations governing individual sports, such as USA Basketball, United States Judo, Inc. and US Field Hockey also provide jobs. Additionally, private sport clubs and facilities that hold sporting events are areas of possible employment. Sport marketing agencies sponsoring events and representing athletes provide jobs as well. Sport management professionals can potentially work in various capacities in each of these areas, including game day operations, facility management, event management, public relations, marketing and promotions, sales, hospitality and administration, just to name a few.
