Theatre & Dance
Overview:
The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance is a degree for students who wish to have an extensive education in theatre or dance as the main focus of their liberal arts education at Southeast. Many Bachelor of Arts graduates go on to pursue a Master of Arts or PhD degrees.
Students who graduate from Southeast with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre & Dance have solid training in diverse roles onstage and backstage. Southeast’s theatre and dance program enhances classroom activities by encouraging students to participate in six mainstage productions each year. These productions usually consist of musicals, dance concerts and a variety of contemporary, modern and classical comedies, dramas and tragedies. The department also facilitates a multitude of student-directed/choreographed productions each academic year.
The Department of Theatre & Dance is part of the Earl and Margie Holland School for the Visual and Performing Arts, located at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. The River Campus facilities provide a professional-caliber venue for music and theatre performances, including a 950-seat proscenium theatre, a 200-seat flexible theatre, a 200-seat dance studio theatre and state-of-the-art classrooms, studios and construction shops. The River Campus is a centerpiece for the arts in Southeast Missouri.
