Agribusiness - Animal Science
Overview:
Approximately 23 million Americans, or one out of every six workers, are currently employed in the agricultural and food system. Careers in this program are important and rewarding because the products of agriculture–food, fiber, fuel, ornamental plants, flowers, veterinary services, and many other natural goods and services–are either essential to life or make our lives significantly better.
Agribusiness students at Southeast are provided with outstanding facilities and computer technology, an excellent internship program, and numerous real-world learning opportunities.
The Department of Agriculture is committed to providing a variety of hands-on learning opportunities for students majoring in agriculture. Students may work at the David M. Barton Agriculture Research Center, the Charles L. Hutson Horticulture Greenhouse, the Rice Research Station, the turf plot facility, the All-America Selections Display Garden or with individual faculty members on projects.
The BS in Agribusiness/Animal Science Option includes specialized study in animal science, animal breeding and nutrition, beef and swine production, companion animals and other areas and prepares students for positions in management, sales, marketing, finance, policy, production and related areas in the animal industry. It can also provide the basis for graduate work leading to a MS or PhD. This option is designed for students who complete all four years at Southeast and for students transferring to Southeast with an AA degree.
