Mass Communication - Television & Film
The four professional mass communication options of advertising, multimedia journalism, public relations, and television and film in the Department of Mass Media at Southeast Missouri State University have met the high standards of The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) accreditation through a rigorous four-step review process that was conducted in 2004-2005. Southeast’s mass communication program is one of only two in the state of Missouri and one of only 107 nationwide with ACEJMC accreditation.
The mass communication options are also certified by the Public Relations Society of America.
As a mass communications major at Southeast, you will have outstanding opportunities to gain first-hand experience through internships or practicums in your field, including positions with newspapers, magazines, advertising and public relations agencies, radio and television stations, corporations and not-for-profit agencies. Southeast’s mass communications program also enhances your classroom activities by incorporating practical experience through several on-campus student media outlets with your in-class studies. These outlets include a campus newspaper, a low-power FM radio station, television station, and the National Public Radio affiliate for our region.
Our ongoing relationships with local media organizations help you develop contacts with communication professionals, thus enhancing your networking opportunities and professional knowledge.
Mass communications student organizations give you additional opportunities to further your experience and be involved with numerous professional activities, including seminars and conferences, campaigns, hands-on projects, client relationships and video and audio projects.
Southeast understands the importance of keeping up with the latest technology. As a mass media student, you will have the opportunity to train in state-of-the-art facilities that will prepare you to enter the exciting and ever-changing field of communication.
