Missouri State (DESE) requirements for the graduate level ESOL Certificate program include 21 hours of coursework in the areas of Theories of Second/Foreign Language Learning, Methods/Techniques of TESOL, Materials/Assessment of TESOL, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Practicum in TESOL, and an elective related to the field. A teacher must also hold a valid teaching certificate in Missouri and show coursework in Teaching Reading in the Content Areas and Psychology of the Exceptional Child.
