PRAXIS I – Pre-Professional Skills Assessment
What Are the Praxis I® Tests? Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST®) are designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The reading, writing, and mathematics assessments are available in two formats: paper-based or computer-based.

PRAXIS II – Subject Assessment Tests What Are PRAXIS II Tests? PRAXIS II: Subject Assessments measure knowledge of specific subjects that K-12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. There are Subject Assessments, Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests and Teaching Foundations Tests.
Individuals entering the teaching profession take these tests as part of the teacher licensing and certification process required by many states. A number of professional associations and organizations require these tests as one criterion for professional licensing decisions.
The PRAXIS II: Subject Assessments include:
- Subject Assessments. These assessments measure general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. They include both multiple-choice and constructed-response test items.
- Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) Tests. These assessments measure your general pedagogical knowledge at four grade levels: Early Childhood, K-6, 5-9, and 7-12. These tests use a case study approach and feature constructed-response and multiple-choice items.
- Teaching Foundations Tests. These assessments measure pedagogy in five areas: multi-subject (elementary), English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. These tests feature constructed-response and multiple-choice items.
Registration forms and fees must be received by ETS prior to the deadline to avoid additional fees.

School Leadership Series
The School Leadership Series consists of two assessments: The School Superintendent Assessment and the School Leaders Licensure Assessment.

Registration for the PRAXIS II or School Leadership Series
Register online for Praxis paper-based tests for fastest and most convenient service.
Note: Online registration is not available for Praxis I computer-based tests, test takers with disabilities who require nonstandard testing accommodations, test takers whose primary language is not English, Monday testing or fee waivers.
- Registration is open Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. (EST) and Saturday, 7 a.m. through Sunday, 8 p.m. (EST).
- You must pay by credit card (American Express®, Discover®, JCB®, MasterCard® or Visa®) or debit card.
- You will need a valid e-mail address, mailing address and phone number to register online. Order confirmations and test admission tickets will be e-mailed to your e-mail address.
- You must know which test(s) you will need to take before you register online. Check the Praxis State Requirements section for a list of tests required by certification area.
- If you plan to designate your attending institution and score recipients while registering, see the Attending Institution/Recipient Codes List (PDF) or the Audiology/Speech Language Pathology Attending Institution/Recipient Codes List (PDF).
- Review The Praxis Series Information Bulletin (PDF) concerning test administration, fee payment, and score reporting before you register online.
- Your registration is not complete until you've submitted your payment and accessed your admission ticket. You will need to print your admission ticket. You will not be mailed a paper admission ticket when you register online.
- Occasionally the test center's street address or reporting location is changed just prior to the test date. To obtain the most recent and accurate reporting address information, sign in to your account three days prior to the test to verify the test center's reporting location and reprint your admission ticket. Do not wait until the morning of the test to print your ticket.
The registration process may take 45 minutes to complete. To enable successful processing, your registration order must be completed by 10 p.m. (EST) Monday-Saturday, or by 8 p.m. (EST) Sunday.
