Justin Barisonek received his MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and is a 2002 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis.
Design credits include “Lost in Yonkers,” “End Days,” and “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” (The New Jewish Theatre); “The Lyons” (Max & Louie Productions); “Fuddy Meers,” and “Anton in Show Business” (Mostly) Harmless Theatre); and multiple designs for New Line Theatre, Historyonics, HotCity Theatre, and Union Avenue Opera.
For two years, Justin has been the Production Designer for Shakespeare Festival St. Louis’ “Shakespeare in the Streets” project, celebrating neighborhoods throughout St. Louis. During the summer, he is a Resident Assistant Scenic Designer at the Muny - the country’s largest outdoor theater. As a founding member of the International Theatre Collective, he worked with fellow ensemble members to produce the original work “Saltwater;” he then toured with the company to Montana, St. Louis, Seattle and British Colombia. Chicago credits include work with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Lookingglass, Live Bait, Chicago dell’Arte, and The House Theatre of Chicago.
Justin has been a guest artist for university theatre programs including Bemidji State University in Minnesota, Washington University in St. Louis, SIU-Edwardsville, and Saint Louis University.
In 2005, Justin was named Best Scenic Designer in St. Louis by Playback Magazine – a St. Louis entertainment publication. His designs have been recognized with multiple Cincinnati Acclaim Awards, a Peggy Ezekiel Award for Outstanding Achievement (USITT/Ohio Valley), a Cincinnati Entertainment Award nomination, and participation in the USITT Young Designer’s Forum.
