Dennis C. Seyer, M.A., M.F.A.
Professor Emeritus

Dennis C. Seyer, a native of St. Louis, is Professor Emeritus of Theatre and Dance as well as the former scenic designer for University Theatre & Dance productions. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Southeast, a Master of Arts degree in theatre from St. Louis University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre design from University of New Orleans.  

He has designed (scenic and lighting design/technical direction) over 125 productions for University Theatre since joining the faculty at Southeast in 1977. Some of his most recent design credits at the Forrest H. Rose Theatre include an alumni production of Art, 42nd St., A Streetcar Named Desire, Noises Off, The Tender Land, The Diary Of Anne Frank, Rapunzel, The Diviners, Don’t Dress For Dinner, The Frog Princess, Sondheim!: A Musical Revue, The Boys Next Door, Babes In Arms, Puss In Boots, As You Like It, Sugar, The Emperor's New Clothes, Dancing At Lughnasa, The Odd Couple, Rumpelstiltskin, The Music Man, Rumors, Very Good Eddie, Jerry's Girls, You Can't Take It With You, Two By Two, The Shadow Box and The Fantasticks. He also has directed 26 productions on campus including plays, musicals and children's theatre.  

Professor Seyer serves as a professional stagehand (I.A.T.S.E.), a free-lance designer, and a theatre consultant. He has served as guest designer at the Huron Summer Playhouse (Huron, Ohio, associated with Bowling Green State University) for Rumors, Nunsense: the Mega-Musical, 1776, The Miracle Worker, The King And I and Kiss Me, Kate; guest designer at Jefferson College (Hillsboro, MO) for Oklahoma, Babes In Arms, and South Pacific; at Fontbonne University (St. Louis, Mo.) as guest designer for over fourteen productions including Measure for Measure, Quilters, Bat Boy: The Musical, Godspell, Jane Eyre, Exit The King, A Winter's Tale, Hamlet, Butterflies Are Free, and Getting Out; and for dance concerts at Kiel Opera House, the Fox Theatre, America's Center, Forest Park College and Harris-Stowe State College (all in St. Louis, Mo.).
