Crisp Hall of Nursing

Crisp Hall of Nursing

Rosemary Berkel Crisp Hall of Nursing

History: Originally the Training School, this limestone building was built between 1921 and 1923. The flood of 1922 delayed construction.  Completely renovated in 1987, its north side, once U-shaped, was enclosed to create Glenn Auditorium.

Building Use: This hall houses many of the College of Health and Human Services academic departments, including, the Nursing, Social Work, and Criminal Justice Departments. Nursing majors have a near 100% first time passing rate on the Nursing Licensure Exam. The Social Work program is one of the few in the state that is fully accredited. One of the fastest growing majors at Southeast, the Criminal Justice program offers many facilities, opportunities, and options to help students become successful in the field.

Another very important student service of Crisp Hall is the Center for Health and Counseling, located on the east side of the building’s first floor. Currently enrolled students can visit the walk-in clinic without an appointment, and all expenses incurred can be placed on their university account. The centers staff performs many medical services, such as making initial diagnoses, personal and group counseling, providing over the counter medication at minimal cost and making physician referrals. The center is staffed by licensed family nurse practitioners, licensed and certified counselors, registered nurses, and other trained health professionals.

Fun Fact: Crisp Hall used to be the University High School, a lab for secondary education majors. It had a full gymnasium attached to the back of the hall.  The gymnasium was removed during the building’s renovation and completion of the Student Recreation Center.
