The Honors House

Honors House

History:  The Honors House is a two-story building constructed in the early 1900’s that has the feel of a “home away from home” for the honors students and faculty at Southeast.  The intricate molding that decorates the main rooms of the Honors House and the archway that opens into these rooms reveal the craftsmanship and architecture of the early 1900’s era.  The Honors House is located at the intersection of Pacific and College Hill streets.  The Honors Program Office relocated from Memorial Hall to the second floor of the current Honors House in the fall of 1997.

Building Use:  The Honors Program Office is located on the second floor of the Honors House and is accessed from the College Hill side of the building.  While at the Honors House, students and faculty may use state-of-the-art desktop and notebook computers, connect wirelessly to the internet, watch TV and videos, listen to stereo, prepare meals in the full kitchen and visit with other members of the honors community.  The Honors House is often used for Student Honors Council and Faculty Honors Council meetings as well as Honors Program events and dinners. The building is also home to the Southeast Health on Wheels (S.H.O.W. Mobile) offfices.

Fun Fact:  The Honors House has two interior staircases that go from exterior doors on the ground level directly to the second floor; however, there is no interior staircase that connects the first floor to the second floor.
