Memorial Hall

History: Completed in 1950, Memorial Hall and its classic prairie style architecture was named by the Board of Regents to memorialize the men and women of Southeast Missouri State’s district who served the country in all military capacities.  It was originally designed as the university’s Student Union.

Building Use:
Memorial Hall now houses the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum.  The Museum is a cultural focal point of the University and the Cape Community.  It annually displays work from students and faculty, as well as many well-known regional and national artists.  An exhibition generally runs for about one month.  A number of permanent displays offer visitors a wide variety of aesthetic and historical experiences. The museum is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
The building also houses the School of University Studies and Academic Information Services, Graduate Studies , and New Student Programs.

Fun Fact: Memorial was temporarily used as a women’s overflow dormitory and a cafeteria was built for the women who lived there. The cafeteria is now used by the Art Department as a ceramics lab.
