History: The new residence hall was constructed on the site of where KRCU once stood next to Houck Stadium, making it the first campus building people see when they arrive at Southeast.
Building Use: The new residence hall encompasses 82,000 square feet and is a suite-style, 306-bed complex. It was designed to create an environment conducive to academic enhancement for all students and the development of thematic communities.
As with the other residence halls, all rooms are completely wired with high-speed internet, cable TV and telephone. Study lounges with wireless internet access are located on each floor, and the hall has one of only two 24-hour computer labs on campus. Game rooms consist of a game table and two 42-inch flat panel televisions. In the commons area is a piano and full kitchen. The hall includes a dining area and Olive’s, a late night food option for residents. A series of paved courtyards, including an outdoor eating area and fountain, can be found in the open area between the new residence hall and Vandiver Hall.
Fun Facts: Southeast students had input in the design of the student rooms, color schemes and furniture options.
Because of its location next to Houck Stadium, students living on the east side can watch the football and soccer games from their student room windows.
With the academic-themed Learning Communities concept, students are grouped based upon college and academic program. The program is tailored towards first and second year students with the active involvement of the college department for that learning community. Examples of Learning Communities include business, construction management/interior design and visual and performing arts.
The new building also features the latest in security with each resident having their student ID encoded to allow them access to interior foyers for elevator access and entrance to the floor on which they reside.
