History: The Student Recreation Center North opened in January of 1987, and underwent an $8 million expansion in 1999. All Southeast students can access the 90,000 square foot facility by showing their student ID. Recreational Sports offers a wide variety of programs and services to students.
Building Use: The Student Recreation Center North includes: five full-size basketball and volleyball courts, six racquetball courts, a four lane track, 4300 square feet of weight room, cardio equipment, a lounge area, dance studio, a multi-purpose room, locker and dressing rooms, a climbing wall and equipment checkout at the operation center.
The center provides various aerobics and fitness classes taught by certified instructors. Classes include step aerobics, yoga and kickboxing. It also provides personalized weight and fitness training for a small fee. Over 30 intramural sports are offered each year that consists of competitions and tournaments held at the center and the outdoor field complex. Many club sports also exist on campus to offer students another level of competition and skill development. Several of these include volleyball, lacrosse, wrestling and men’s soccer. Students interested in outdoor activities can rent canoes, camping, climbing and exploring equipment from the Student Recreation Center’s outdoor shop.
Fun Fact: The Student Recreation Center North is often the site for the start of the school year ice-cream social where unusual things have been known to happen. One year, one of the Vice-Presidents of the University was hypnotized on stage at this annual event.
