River Campus

River Campus

History: In 1998, the buildings and grounds of the former St. Vincent’s College and Seminary was acquired by the Southeast Missouri University Foundation, using funds donated by B. W. Harrison of Cape Girardeau and Salem, with the understanding that the property will be preserved and used for educational purposes.  In 2007, construction and renovations were completed on the historic buildings, thus forming the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Building Use: The River Campus is home to the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum, a Missouri Welcome Center and the beautiful riverfront Terrace Park. The School of Visual and Performing Arts includes Southeast’s art, dance, music and theatre programs. The campus also houses a number of performance stages including the Bedell Performance Hall, the Rust Flex Theatre, and the Shuck Recital Hall.

Fun Fact: The River Campus is home to a state champion Birch Tree and one of the oldest handball courts in the state.
