History: Approved by the Board of Regents in 1968, Scully was completed in 1971. This four-story building, the “education-psychology building” as it was first referred to, was later named after Mark F. Scully, the University’s 10th president, and the man responsible for much of Southeast’s campus growth.
Building Use: Scully Building is home to Southeast’s nationally recognized College of Education, as well as the Psychology and Human Environmental Studies departments. The Department of Psychology, located on Scully’s fourth floor, offers a wide range of opportunities to its students including internships, student organizations, and participation in research projects. The Human Environmental Studies Department includes many diverse majors such as child development, fashion merchandising, interior design, food and nutrition, and dietetics.
The College of Education offers programs for elementary, middle, secondary and special education majors. Southeast’s education program is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This national accreditation and Southeast’s strong program requirements and reputation offer our graduates enhanced opportunities when searching for and obtaining employment nationwide.
Fun Fact: Southeast is the nation’s only two-time winner of the prestigious Christa McAuliffe Showcase for Excellence Award presented by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).
