Commitments and Values
University Relations professionals, by virtue of their special responsibilities within the academic community, represent the University to the larger society. They have, therefore, a special duty to exemplify the best qualities of the institution and to observe the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.
- We promote the merits of the institution and of education generally, but not at the expense of our sister institutions.
- Our words and actions embody respect for truth, fairness, free inquiry and the open exchange of ideas.
- We recognize the interdependence of everyone and treat all with candor and kindness without regard to race, color, sex, creed, ethnic or national identity, handicap or age.
- We uphold the professional reputation of other colleagues and give credit to ideas, words or images originated by others.
- We safeguard privacy rights and confidential information.
- We do not grant or accept favors for personal gain, nor do we solicit or accept favors for the institution where a high public interest would be violated.
- We avoid actual or potential conflicts of interest and, when in doubt, seek guidance from appropriate authorities.
- We abide by the highest standards and go beyond the letter and spirit of rules and regulations affecting the institution.
- We expect our work to make a difference and, to that end, try to discover what is most important to do and focus resources accordingly.
- We stress quality and strive to conduct activities consistently well.
- We strive to present a positive public image in all we do.
- We recognize the need for order amidst change.
- We respond quickly and professionally to all who seek our services.
