The School of University Studies is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Wayne H. Bowen as the Director of University Studies. Dr. Bowen began his transition into this newly created position last semester, but has fully assumed his duties effective January 1, 2013. In this capacity, he will be responsible for overseeing the curricular offerings of the School of University Studies, updating and revising these courses, working with academic departments across campus, and providing leadership to the University Studies Council. He will also continue to serve as chairperson of the Department of History, a position he has held since 2008. Dr. Bowen earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Southern California in 1990 and masters’ and doctoral degrees from Northwestern University in 1992 and 1996, respectively. Bowen teaches and researches in the fields of European and Middle East history, and is the author of six books, including his most recent, “Spain and the American Civil War,” published in 2011 by the University of Missouri Press.
