Once you are finished looking over the site and any necessary changes have been discussed with Web Design & Support, it's time to reserve your spot for the next Open Text training session to learn how to maintain and update the content on your new website in-house.

As mentioned elsewhere, Southeast uses a system called “Open Text” to manage its departmental Web sites. This system allows not only a consistent visual look, but a consistent knowledge base and technical skills across all departments that use it. Which means that since it is supported by the office of Web Design & Support, there will always be an expert on campus whose job it is to help you with your website. This prevents the common problem that departments often face of having a fantastic student worker who knows everything about Web sites and builds one for them. Then they have the nerve to graduate, leaving that department’s Web presence in the lurch. Since Open Text is supported by full time university staff dedicated to making it work, there will always be someone available to help your department with its Web site.

The Open Text system is comparable to Microsoft Office in its ease of use, and you don’t need to know anything about HTML coding or other Web jargon to make updates to your site. A comfortable knowledge of word processing is all that is really required. After the training is completed, you can also consult our reference materials if you can’t quite remember one of the tasks from the training.

Some important notes about training:

• Browser - Open Text 10.1 currently supports the use of Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari for the Mac users. Internet Explorer tends to process the software a bit slower and sometimes causes functionality issues, so be sure you have at least version 8 and consider switching to a either Firefox or Chrome if you start having problems. After training is finished and the final edits to the website have been completed, it is time for the final step.
