Frequently Asked Questions about the Web & RedDot

Why do we have to send files to the Web Design office? Why can’t we upload them ourselves?

The folder system we use organizes files in galleries based on major campus colleges and divisions. For example, the College of Liberal Arts has a file gallery that contains all of the images and documents for the Art Department, Music, Theatre and Dance, KRCU, Foreign Languages and more. There are over 700 files in this folder alone.

The system does not allow for sub-folders within this gallery, so in order to keep files of various departments together and easy to find we have developed a strict naming structure for the files that organizes them by department.

The naming convention requires a departmental prefix for each file at the beginning of the file name and the year the file was uploaded at the end of the file name. For example:

KRCU_DiscoverNature_2009.jpg

Is an image file for KRCU’s Web site. Between the department prefix and the date is a descriptive name of what the image or file contains.

In order to ensure that this naming convention is strictly adhered to, Web Design and Support manages all file uploads directly. If you have files you would like posted to your Web site please send them to us and we will upload them for you. Turnaround time is almost always same day.
