Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders

35 Hour Major - Minor Required

The student is required to take the following courses (35 hours):

CD211 Anatomy and Physiology/Speech Mechanism (4)
CD225 Phonetics (3)
CD230 Introduction to Communication Disorders (4)
CD340 Normal Speech and Language Development (3)
CD371 Anatomy and Physiology of the Hearing Mechanism (3) (online course)
CD402 Clinical Practicum in Communication Disorders (3)
CD406 Service Delivery in Communication Disorders (4)
CD408 Language and Fluency Disorders (3)
CD409 Articulation and Voice Disorders (2)
CD426 Hearing Disorders: Audiological Assessment (3)
Choose one of the following:
CD510 Multicultural Issues in Communication Disorders (3)
CD525 Aural Rehabilitation (3) (online course)

Additional Requirements:

National certification in speech-language pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association requires that applicants complete a core of courses in humanities; biological and physical sciences; mathematics; and, behavioral and social sciences. Students should work closely with a departmental advisor in selecting appropriate courses that meet these certification requirements. The courses at Southeast that meet these requirements are indicated below.

Students majoring in CD are required to complete 3 hours of statistics. MA155 (3)


A minimum GPA of 2.75 in the major courses must be maintained, with a grade of "C" or above in all major courses. If a student completes a semester and his/her GPA is below 2.75, then he/she will be on probation for the next semester of enrollment.  If the major GPA of 2.75 is not achieved at the end of the probationary semester, the student will not be allowed to continue in the Communication Disorders program.
