Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) alumnus Michelle Spires has become senior marketing manager at Tarlton Corp., St. Louis’ largest women-owned general contracting, construction management and design-build firm.
Spires graduated from SEMO in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a minor in marketing and public relations. Spires supports the business development and marketing team with branding, public and media relations and internal and external communications and proposals. She also assists with project documentation, branding and signage.
“When I arrived as a freshman at SEMO, I was undecided in my career path, but the supportive faculty and hands-on experiences in my marketing courses inspired me to pursue a career in this field,” said Spires. “This promotion feels like a big milestone and I’m excited to keep growing and building meaningful connections along the way.”
Beyond her marketing expertise, Spires leads Tarlton’s sustainability committee, guiding business strategies and policies to further educate employees, clients and the community. She’s involved in corporate strategic planning while leading departmental planning and budgeting.
Tarlton Corp. is certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). The company provides preconstruction, construction and design-build solutions to commercial and non-commercial markets.
At SEMO, students have access to mentorship, practical experience and opportunities to engage with industry professionals, including alumni like Spires. The University continues to support programs that encourage exploration of leadership roles and careers in emerging industries, creating an environment where talent meets opportunity.
