‘Orpheus Descending’ Coming to River Campusby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 20, 2013 – The classic American drama, “Orpheus Descending,” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-7 and 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus.
The play is set in a small, conservative southern town in the 1950s. One day a young man arrives and upsets the dreary life of the residents with heart-wrenching and tragic consequences.
“‘Orpheus Descending’ is a serious drama by American playwright Tennessee Williams that explores passion and repression,” said Dr. Phil Nacy, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. “A wild-spirited young man arrives in a small town and turns the conformity and narrowness of the townspeople upside-down.”
The performance will include adult content.
