As a returning student your meningitis vaccination record should already be on file. If you have not submitted a copy of your vaccination record, you need to submit verification before you move into the residence hall. If you do not receive the vaccintaion while you are at home over the summer, you will be directed to the Campus Health Clinic, operated by Southeast HEALTH, to obtain your meningococcal vaccination. The Health Clinic accepts most insurances and the charge can be applied to your student account. If you want to be exempt from receiving the vaccination, you must complete the waiver form and submit it to the Office of Residence Life. Both forms can be submitted by email or fax. Our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and the fax number is (573) 651-2257.
Unfortunately, due to the preparations for fall, students will not be able to arrive to campus earlier than the beginning of our scheduled move-in process on Saturday, August 15. If you are being required to return to campus before this date, please contact us to discuss any options that may be available.
Internet access in the residence halls consist of direct access from the use of Ethernet cords and WI-FI. We recommend that you don't connect more than two devices to the WI-FI at any time. WI-FI is available throughout the building, however, with the ever increasing reliance on and use of technology, limiting the amount of devices to the WI-FI improves access for everyone.
Limit streaming videos to Ethernet connected devices. This excess traffic can bog down the system and frustrate users due to the sluggishness of the system. Connect printers and video consoles to the Game Network for better reliability or turn off devices that are not currently used to avoid additional traffic.
Practice physical distancing and wear a face-covering according to campus expectations. We also encourage you to consider how your room is set up and whether it allows you to maintain appropriate distances within that space.
ALCOHOL and MARIJUANA are major inhibitors of student academic success; Southeast Missouri State University will enforce the ban on alcohol and alcohol containers (full or empty).
CANDLES are a concern for your safety, and are a danger to you and to every other student in your building. However, electric candle warmers and electric scents are welcome.
Cable and internet are two things you will want to set up after you move into your room. Students must supply their own television and coaxial cable cord to view cable channels. All televisions must be equipped with a digital “QAM” or “Clear QAM” tuner. To access campus internet, you will need to register all electronic devices that need Wi-Fi. Instructions for accessing the internet are available online here: IT Guide for personal devices
Due to concerns related to COVID-19, changes are being made to our traditional check-in process to ensure the safety of our students, parents, and campus staff members. A drive-thru check-in process has been developed to take place in the Show Me Center parking lot (1333 N Sprigg St, Cape Girardeau, MO, 63701). Students will receive their key, first-year t-shirt, receive their parking permit, among other items at this time.
The following schedule has been developed to allow for 6’ social distancing and to limit the number of students checking into a building at one time.
August 15 – Greek, Band, Success @ Southeast Institute, approved students returning for department training
August 16 – Greek, Band, Success @ Southeast Institute, approved students returning for department training
August 17 – Returning Southeast students
August 18 – no move-ins
August 19 – New and new transfer students
August 20 – New and new transfer students
August 21 – Returning students (check-in at hall desks)
Check-in will take place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. Students will reserve a one-hour move-in time slot on a designated date. Unfortunately, Move-In Crew volunteers will not be available to assist this year. Students will be limited to two (2) additional people to help with their move-in. Carts and dollies/hand trucks will not be available due to sanitization concerns, however, students are permitted to bring their own to assist with their move-in. We encourage students to minimize what they bring from home and not bring anything but necessary belongings, no big items, and no furniture. This will make it easier to move-in and keep a non-cluttered living area clean and sanitized.
Students who are unable to arrive during their assigned dates should contact us (email@example.com or 573-651-2274) to discuss alternate arrival days/times.
New for Fall 2020: Students can schedule a 30-minute time period to drop off items in their rooms August 3-7. This option will reduce the amount of time needed to move in during official move-in days. Staff will escort students to their rooms to place items in their rooms. Students will not be issued keys or permitted to unpack or set anything up during this time.
Information on how to reserve a time for move-in or to drop-off items in your room will be sent separately to your Southeast email before the end of July.
