The Department of Music at Southeast offers the Bachelor of Music in Performance or Composition for students who wish to perform professionally or create new music in the classical, electronic and avant garde traditions.
More than ten ensembles for instrumental and vocal students are available at Southeast, giving students many opportunities to gain valuable performing experience. Students also have the opportunity to participate in small chamber groups of various instrumental combinations.
The Department of Music moved in the fall of 2007 to the new Earl and Margie Holland College of Arts and Media at the newly constructed River Campus, located in the renovated Old St. Vincent’s College seminary building in Cape Girardeau. This historic landmark houses faculty offices, classrooms as well as the beautiful 205-seat Robert and Gertrude Shuck Recital Hall.
Next to the seminary building, the River Campus Cultural Arts Center includes a beautiful rehearsal hall and Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall, a 950-seat, state-of-the-art, large performance auditorium with incredible acoustics to complement every performance. This exciting new theater is the home to all theatre, music and dance productions and also includes a touring series which brings a wide array of cultural performances to the Cape Girardeau public. This breathtaking, innovative 150,000-square-foot facility distinguishes Southeast as the only Missouri university to have a campus devoted to the disciplines of art, dance, music and theatre.
