Overview
Students completing the Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education program at
Southeast Missouri State University receive grades 9-12 teaching certification and
are trained to teach social studies content courses including history, geography,
civics, and economics.
What You'll Do
- Take courses from award-winning faculty in both the College of Liberal Arts and the
College of Education
- Experience multiple field placements and work with students with a variety of learning
styles
- Develop skills essential to successful high school teaching
- Enjoy multiple opportunities for collaboration with local teachers and with other
students in the SSED major

Student teaching placements for Social Studies education students are designed to
provide:
- Extended periods of time in a classroom setting to study classroom organization and
management
- Instructional strategies, curriculum planning, and classroom management techniques
- Experience in teaching practices and procedures under the mentorship of an accomplished
cooperating teacher
