Eligibility

The University School for Young Children accepts children between the ages of six weeks and five years of age.

Admissions

Admission to the USYC is on a "first-come, first-served" basis for each age group. Completed applications are dated upon receipt. This date determines the order for contacting parents for the future enrollment of their child. The University School for Young Children maintains a waiting list that is updated periodically. Failure to respond to an update notice will result in the withdrawal of the child's name from the waiting list. It is the family's responsibility to ensure that the USYC has current contact information and to respond to communications regarding openings.

Upon acceptance into the program, your child must have a signed authorization form from a physician within 30 days of their start date. All immunizations and screening required by the Missouri Department of Health must be completed before your child may attend the school. If these forms are not completed, your child will not be admitted into the program.

Under no circumstance can your child begin our program until a completed enrollment form, emergency contact form, authorization form, a signed contract, copies of the child’s immunization, and your class schedule are submitted.

Meet & Greet

Upon availability of space, you will be contacted for a time during which you will meet with the director and learn more about the school. This time will allow us to get to know each other, and we will learn how we can best meet your needs.

We require that you and your child visit the classroom for a short time before the child’s scheduled start date. The visit allows the child to become more comfortable and begin building trust between the child, parent, and caregiver. The visit helps ease anxiety and helps them feel comfortable with the other children and teachers.

Hear from a Parent

"Our daughter was born prematurely and required extra assistance to develop key skills in her first year. The knowledge and expertise that can be found at USYC made bringing Lillian here an easy decision. They make Lilly feel comfortable while working with her to develop and grow. Lilly is always happy to see her teachers and is all smiles when she sees them in the morning, which makes her mother and I rest easy knowing that Lilly is happy when she gets to school."

Fee Schedule & Policies

Fees are based upon the child's age and a discount is applied for children of students and University faculty and staff. Please contact us for a fee schedule.

The fees for the University School for Young Children are based on fall, spring, and summer sessions. Children are enrolled for a fall, spring, or summer session, and families are charged for the entire session at the time of enrollment. The fee is determined by the group in which the child is placed at the beginning of the session and the fee schedule of the program.

  • Fall session is August 1 through December 31.
  • Spring session is January 1 through May 31.
  • Summer session is June 1 through July 31.

Families may make arrangements to pay fall/spring/summer session fees in monthly installments or one payment. The payment schedule will be arranged with the school at the time of enrollment and may be changed at the beginning of a new session.

A child must be enrolled on a continuous basis to hold a space. Children who are absent for part of a session must pay for the entire session to maintain enrollment. In addition, a child who does not enroll for the summer session is considered withdrawn and will be placed at the end of the waiting list for future enrollment. This child will not be assured a space for fall and will only be offered an opening if space is available.

If a child is enrolled for a session and does not attend the first three days of that session and no payment has been made beyond the enrollment fee, the school will consider this a notice of withdrawal. Therefore, it is important that parents make the first payment on time if the child will not be in attendance the first week. If a child is withdrawn because of non-attendance/non-payment, the parent will be charged one full installment.
