As with most places and events across campus, the Writing Lab will look and operate a bit differently this fall. We are still here in Memorial Hall for writing support, but in an effort to “Protect the Nest,” our procedure for in-person visits has been modified. Here’s an overview of what to expect with a face-to-face session.
Instead of dropping by, you will now need to make an appointment and submit your paper prior to your appointment. These activities are conveniently located in our Online Writing Lab in Moodle. Students are welcome to self-enroll (see self-enrollment instructions: https://semo.edu/writing/online_submit.html), but we are on hand to assist. Once enrolled, you will find the Online Writing Lab under My Courses when logged in to your Moodle site.
Now, we are just a couple of clicks away. First, navigate to Writing Lab Face-to-Face Appointments. Click on Writing Lab Appointments and then select a 30-minute appointment slot that fits your schedule by clicking Register.
Note: Moodle uses European date format (day.month.year) and military time. September 3, 2020 would be formatted as 03.09.2020, and 3:30 p.m. would be 15:30.
Moodle will send a reminder email one day prior to your appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please cancel in Moodle by clicking Unregister.
After scheduling your appointment, navigate to Dropbox for Scheduled Appointments in Writing Lab Face-to-Face Appointments. Click on Add Submission and upload your paper to the dropbox. You are now ready for your appointment.
One of our tutors will review your paper and be ready to provide writing support once you arrive for your appointment. Even though you submitted your paper electronically, you still need to bring a hard copy (paper copy) of your paper to your appointment, so that we can practice social distancing during the session.
All faculty, staff, students, and visitors are required to wear masks when on campus. If you are unable to wear a mask, please use the Online Writing Lab for writing support.
The Writing Lab, located in room 103 of Memorial Hall, provides face-to-face writing support to university and community clients. The tutors in the Writing Lab will:
What our Writing Lab tutors will not do is simply proofread your paper; please read the Policy on Proofreading for more information.
