For information regarding whether you need to take WP001, please see the English Composition Placement Exam.
WP001 is a 50-minute impromptu essay examination offered online prior to FirstSTEP Orientation. Students with documented learning disabilities should contact Testing Services to arrange for special accommodations.
WP001 is scored holistically by the Center for Writing Excellence on a scale of 0-6. Students who receive a score of 3.5 or higher will be placed into EN100; students who receive a score of 3.0 or lower will be placed into concurrent English composition courses, EN099 + EN100 (native speakers) or TL110 + EN100 (ESL learners).
If a student is placed into EN099/100 co-requisite due to no ACT, SAT, or writing placement score and fails to take the placement exam before the completion of Week One of the semester in which they attend EN099/100, the student will forfeit the privilege to take the writing placement exam.
