Department of Communication Disorders
Mission Statement: The Department of Communication Disorders provides students with a broad-based theoretical foundation in Communication Disorders at the undergraduate level. This includes a contemporary curriculum in normal processes of human communication as well as evaluation, treatment, and research into human communication and its disorders. Active learning experience is provided through a strong clinical training component within the University Speech and Hearing Clinic.
The graduate program in speech-language pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Upon completion of the graduate program, students are eligible for state and national certification. A broad selection of career challenges is available for professional speech-language pathologists. Career opportunities exist in a variety of professional settings including medical centers, higher education, community-state-federal health services agencies, public schools and private practice.

Program Overview & Accreditation: Students majoring in Communication Disorders at Southeast Missouri State University are afforded the opportunity to receive training in a nationally accredited program in speech-language pathology by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.Undergraduate Program: The undergraduate program is designed to prepare students for admission to graduate studies leading toward a Master's degree in a related area such as speech-language pathology, audiology, and/or deaf education. Graduate Program: The Master's degree program in communication disorders is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association in the area of speech-language pathology. Financial Aid: There are several options available to help finance your course of study for both undergraduate or graduate work. Facilities: The Department of Communication Disorders is housed in two separate facilities. The departmental office, the University Speech and Hearing Clinic, and the departmental faculty offices are located in Grauel Building at the southeast corner of the University campus. Pacific Hall, located adjacent to Grauel Building, houses instructional, laboratory, and research facilities.
