CIE Announces New Student Incubator, Creative Space at Innovation Center
The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is opening a new resource center called the Start-Up Studio.
Students, faculty and the public are invited to attend an open house for the Start-Up Studio on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from noon to 3 p.m. The Start-Up Studio is located on the first floor of the Southeast Innovation Center at 920 Broadway, on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
Dr. James Stapleton, executive director of the CIE and assistant professor of management at Southeast, described the goals and benefits of the studio project.
“The Start-Up Studio and the activities planned for this space are intended to provide an opportunity for entrepreneurially minded students to connect to the people and resources they need to turn their ideas into action,” he said.
The Start-Up Studio offers a number of specialized resources: the “Bored Room,” a conference area for meetings, student collaboration and presentations; the Chill Zone, a place to relax and connect; the Refueling Station with snacks and beverages; and the Idea Lab, a research center with computer workstations and a reference library. To help students explore the creative process of new venture creation, a number of activities will be hosted by the CIE in the Start-Up Studio in the coming months. These include interactive “Ideation Workshops,” invited speakers, and the opportunity to meet with successful entrepreneurs, mentors, suppliers and business counselors from the CIE.
