Winners of Fault-Line Film Festival Announcedby News Bureau on
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Dec. 16, 2011 -- Winners of the 2011 Fault-Line Film Festival at Southeast Missouri State University were recently announced and awarded at a special screening during Global Entrepreneurship Week.
John Haas of Rolla, Mo., and his team Pomegranate won Best of Festival for the film, “Coming and Going.” Additionally, Bryan Birks of Festus, Mo., won Best Drama for the film, “Shift”; Hunter Hempen of Breese, Ill., won Best Comedy for the film, “Terrible Tides”; Kurt Ehlmann of Fenton, Mo., won Best Mystery/Suspense for the film, “Lost and Found”; and Kyle Dillow, who was an invitational entry from Missouri State University, won Best Animation for the film “Kriegshund.” Paul Stokes of Holt, Mo., took home the Judge’s Award for the film “Achromatic” while Sam Pixley of Florissant, Mo., and his team took home the People’s Choice Award for their crime drama, “Lies in the Night.”
More than 40 student films were entered during this year’s festival, and 11 were chosen to be screened at the gala reception complete with red carpet, lights and photographers. This was the second year for the Fault-Line Film Festival at Southeast.
During the festival, student filmmakers and actors at Southeast are given the chance to spotlight their creative talents by competing for prizes and recognition. This year, winning student films received engraved crystal awards in addition to monetary prizes which ranged from $250 for all student categories to $1,000 for the Best of Festival film.
Stephen Poster, acclaimed cinematographer of films such as “Donnie Darko” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” read the announcement in front of a near-capacity crowd in the Rose Theatre.
The Fault-Line Film Festival was co-sponsored by the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Department of Mass Media and the Department of Theatre and Dance as part of Southeast Missouri State’s celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
