University Tutorial Services

Program Description

University Tutorial Services is provided through Learning Assistance Programs and is nationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

Tutoring is available for enrolled University students. Tutoring is provided through scheduled appointments as well as on a "drop-in" basis, and is provided on the Cape Girardeau campus in multiple locations, as well as at the Regional Campuses.

Tutoring is provided on a first come, first served basis. Students may receive tutoring for up to five hours per week for each course in which they receive tutoring. Learning Assistance Programs will make every effort to match all requests received, but Learning Assistance Programs cannot guarantee tutor availability for all courses. Learning Assistance Programs provides a “drop in” Open Lab on the Cape Girardeau campus. Additionally, Learning Assistance Programs collaborates with other academic departments to provide content specific Open Labs.

How to Sign Up for a Tutor

Students should come into UC 302 OR visit the online tutor request site (linked below) to complete a request form. If requesting a tutor for a class that is offered at one of the Regional Campuses, please indicate this when making the tutor request online or in person. Matching students with tutors is done as quickly as possible, but may not be done the same day. Delays in matching may be caused by not having a tutor on staff for a particular course, having to work with a professor or academic department to try and find a tutor, or by coordinating with staff at Regional Campuses. The tutorial request form will be used to connect a student with a trained tutor whose available time matches the student’s availability. Once a match has been made, students will be contacted via email with the contact information for the tutor. Should there be difficulties making connection with the tutor, please contact Learning Assistance Programs.
