Steps to Apply for a Scholarship
Login to the Southeast Portal
Select the Students Tab
Select Click Here to open My Southeast Self-Service
Click on the link to access your Self-Service page
Select Southeast Student Processes
Select Apply for An Endowed Scholarship
In order to apply for Endowed and Sponsored Scholarships, you must fill out the General Information Form for the Financial Aid Year you are applying for before choosing scholarships. If you need to make a change to your General Information, click on your Southeast ID, make your changes and click on Apply Changes. This will allow you to be considered for every scholarship for which you meet the criteria. You do not have to select individual scholarships, unless you are applying for a scholarship that requires additional documentation or a separate application. You can see a list of these scholarships by clicking on the "Scholarship Requiring Special Procedures" button.
Dr. Tamara Baldwin Mass Media Scholarship
Criteria:
- Mass Communication major
- A minimum GPA of 2.5
- Renewable, but must be applied for each year
- Submit an essay of 100 words or less on his or her student leadership experience, and focusing on his or her future career in mass media, including his or her committment to diversity
Herb and Peggy Taylor Endowment for Excellence in Media Communication Scholarship
Criteria:
- Mass Communication major
- A minimum GPA of 2.0
- Renewable
John and Mary Blue Scholarship for Journalism (Varies up to $1,000)
Voted on by the Department Scholarship Committee and a Member of the Cape Rotary Club.
Criteria:
- Journalism major, must have GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Award can be used for fees, or to provide financial assistance for travel abroad.
Charles and Mary Ellen Sharp Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students (Up to $500)
Voted on by the University Scholarship Committee
Criteria:
- Undergraduate major in History, English, or any area of Communications
- Must be at least 20 years of age, be a Self-Supporting, Non-Traditional Student w/at least one dependent
- FAFSA form from Financial Aid Services preferred to verify financial need
- Must maintain at least a GPA of 2.75 with an achieved 3.0 GPA for the semester completed prior to submitting the application.
Ruth Humphreys Munger Scholarship (Up to $500)
Voted on by the University Scholarship Committee
Criteria:
- Must be a Journalism or Communication major
R. Ferrell Ervin Memorial Scholarship (Up to $500)
Voted on by the Department Scholarship Committee
Criteria:

Must have 3.5 GPA at time of award and maintain to re-apply

Must be an upcoming Junior or Senior pursuing any degree in the Department of Mass Media
Nancy A. Bray Mass Communication Scholarship
Criteria:
- Awarded to a junior or senior pursuing any Mass Communication degree
- First preference given to those purusing options in Advertising, Public Relations or TV/Film
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
Judith Ann Crow Endowed Scholarship
Voted on by the Department Scholarship Committee
Criteria:
- Mass Communication student majoring in Journalism
Michael Davis Scholarship (Up to $500)
Voted on by the Department Scholarship Committee
Criteria:
- Mass Communication major
- Minority
- First preference given to African-American students who plan to pursue careers in print journalism
- Minimum 60 hours completed
- Minimum departmental GPA of 2.75
