Welcome to the accelerated second degree baccalaureate nursing program, a part of the Department of Nursing at Southeast Missouri State University. The accelerated baccalaureate program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and has full approval by the State of Missouri through the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
Upon completion of the program, you will have a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) and the basic preparation for making an application to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The accelerated second degree baccalaureate nursing curriculum is designed to promote your professional growth in the field of nursing. In addition to expanding knowledge and developing technical skills, you will be challenged to think critically and to grow personally. Learning activities will prepare you as a generalist in nursing, i.e., you will have the entry level baccalaureate skills necessary to function in any area of nursing practice.
The accelerated second degree BSN 18 month option admits 10 students. The cohort will attend for four full semesters, including one summer. The first degree may be in any discipline, but students must have anatomy and physiology I & II, chemistry, microbiology, growth and development across the lifespan (equivalent of PY220), nutrition (equivalent of FN235) and statistics completed before nursing classes start. Admission is based on cumulative GPA and three of four science grades. The second class has been admitted for Fall 2011 semester. Our next admission is January 2013 with an application deadline of October 1, 2012.
